I got the fuel tank back today from Hartlepool Radiators. Nice to see some real progress. See the bottom of this post for the comparison. I always thought primer was grey! Anyway the dent has gone and the rust has been abolished - inside and out.
Perhaps the whole bike should be this colour. It would be easier. Now I have to find the original colour. These GS1100 Gs were offered in brown and blue originally (in Canada anyway). Our bike was brown when we bought it but the brown fuel tank rusted out and we found a blue one to replace it. I much prefer blue but then I am not restoring it to the original colour. Does that matter?
Whatever stuff they use - it has been done inside and out.
You can see the panel on the bottom section which they cut out in order blast the rust and to apply the chemical treatment on the inside.
You can see all the lovely coating - nice and thick. This tank will last another 100 years.
The "before" photos which show the rust, the dents and the original blue paint.
